Congratulations to Kanonkop Wine Estate for winning the most Outstanding Wine Producer Award at the 2019 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) held at the Guildhall in London.
The IWSC is one of the biggest shows on the world’s wine calendar attracting approximately 5500 entries from about 50 countries.
There are also 564 wine cellars in the Western Cape which constitutes 98% of all wine cellars in South Africa.
Approximately 98% of the country’s wine farms are based in our province, with 50 percent of all wine products being exported from the Western Cape and we want to see this grow. The wine industry is an important contributor to the agricultural economy in our province and a major creator of jobs in the Western Cape.
This award confirms the consistent quality of South African wine making and certainly supports the Western Cape Government’s objective to promote market access and increase wine exports by giving us further exposure in international markets.
Other winning producers include Beyerskloof, Stellenrust and Spier Wine Farm.
